Do applicant tracking systems reject résumés automatically?
Most tracking systems parse your résumé into fields a recruiter can search: contact details, work history, skills. The real risk is a parser misreading your document so badly that the recruiter sees a garbled or empty profile. The ATS format guide covers the formatting choices that cause it.
Is a PDF or a Word file better for ATS?
A PDF from a standard export and a .docx are the safest choices. Parsing breaks on a PDF that is really a scanned image, and on layouts built from tables or multiple columns. The checker accepts PDF and DOCX, so you can test the exact file you plan to send.
Can I check my résumé against a specific job description?
